Obituary of BRYANT – James Jim Keith

August 14, 1924 – January 3, 2011 James “Jim” Keith Bryant, beloved husband of Lorraine of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home following a three-year illness on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the age of 86 years. Besides his loving wife Lorraine, Jim is survived by daughters, Laurie Robertson (Bruce) and Stephanie Howard; and sons, Keith (Linda), Paul, Scott and Jeff (Lorraine). Jim also leaves to mourn his step-daughters, Carmen Olson (Glenn), Reta McPhail (Bruce) and Terry Kleeberger; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; twin brother Jack of London, ON; brother Ron of London, ON; and brother Don of Syracuse, New York. Jim was born in London, Ontario on August 14, 1924. He obtained his B.Sc. with a major in Geology from The University of Western Ontario in 1947, and then moved to Calgary to begin his forty year career in the oil and gas industry. Jim began his career as a geologist with Gulf Oil following his move out west. He also worked for West Canadian, Zapata and Pennzoil over the next two decades. Jim always enjoyed working on well sites in the search for oil and gas. In the early 1970’s he formed his own consulting business which took him to the Arctic, Germany and Egypt. Jim and Lorraine traveled extensively, visiting many countries all over the world. Jim led a very Christian life and always offered support to the less fortunate. He was actively involved in St. Pius parish as he raised his young family. He served as a Cub Scout leader and was active as a fundraiser during the building of a new St. Pius Church. For decades he supported a foster child and donated regularly to a Catholic missionary school in a remote part of northern India. He also devoted many hours as a volunteer at the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and for Inn from the Cold. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
