Obituary of PREST – Eileen

January 13, 1916 – December 30, 2010 Eileen Prest departed peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the age of 94 years, with her family by her side. Eileen was born January 13, 1916 in Winnipeg, MB, younger daughter to Thomas Walker Hayes and Mary Edna Jackson. Eileen and Haig married in 1941, living primarily in Winnipeg, then moved their family to Calgary in 1968. She worked many years at Eaton’s, but devoted most of her life to family. She enjoyed tennis in younger years and loved playing piano and gardening. She was an avid reader, and her mother often caught her sneaking in reading rather than doing chores, a passion she pursued through out her life. She valued many lifelong friendships she made through church, community and travels. Eileen was a lady of grace and integrity, who left a legacy of compassion and kindness. She blessed her loved ones with unconditional love and support, exhibiting an amazing inner strength and faith. She lived her life by the example: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” She was the wife for sixty years of Haig Victor Prest (1918 – 2001); mother to her two sons, Alan and Ian; her daughter Nancy (George Barnes); and Grandma to Brandy (Steve Fleming), Sarah, Thomas, Matthew, Mark, Natasha, Elysia, and Katie. She was sister to Dorothy Hayes of White Rock, B.C., and aunt to Wayne McConnell of Winnipeg, MB A Celebration of Eileen’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. The family will hold a private graveside service.
