Obituary of KAGA – Fusaye Betty

September 6, 1925 – December 25, 2010 Betty Kaga of Calgary passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Betty is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Martin and Karen of Edmonton, Gary and Serap, and Richard and Kathy, all of Vancouver; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marilyn Harris of Sherman Oaks, California and Elaine and Doug Cruickshank of Calgary; and five grandchildren, Tyler Harris, Midori Kaga, Daniel Kaga, Jordan Kaga and Nora Cruickshank. She is also survived by a sister Kikue Matsui of Burnaby, BC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband Yas Kaga in 1996; son-in-law Michael Harris in 2010; her parents; two brothers; and a sister. Betty was born September 6, 1925 in New Westminster, BC and grew up in Vancouver until 1942, followed by four years in Slocan, BC. She settled in Taber, AB in 1946, married Yas in 1947 and together started their family. While in Taber they farmed with Yas’ brothers and their families and were active members of the Taber Buddhist Church. Upon retirement, they moved to Calgary and joined the Kotobuki Seniors Club where they both enjoyed many club activities and made lasting friendships. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sonya Lee, Dr. David Hogan, the “Home Care” nurses and other health professionals, the staff at the Beverly Centre Glenmore and Dr. Palencia and nurses of Unit 73 Rockyview Hospital. A very special thank you to all the caregivers that looked after Betty at home. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers and Koden, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
