Obituary of MILLER – James Douglas

December 7,1922 – December 22, 2010 J. Douglas Miller passed away December 22, 2010 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 88 years. He is survived by Lillian Miller his beloved wife of sixty-six wonderful years; his children Marlene Miller, Sidney, BC; Jim Miller (Angie), Calgary; Bob Miller (Wendy), Riondel, BC; and Donna Hart, Calgary; his six grandchildren; Ryan Hart (Whitney & Great Grandson Cace), Chelsea Seltzer (Richie), Chris, Troy, Becky and Alanna Miller; sister Florence Alexander, nephew Wayne Alexander (Linda) and niece Linda Wheeler of Calgary along with numerous other nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Jemima and Joseph Miller, brother Tom Miller, sisters Isobel Toop (Larry) and Hilda Miller. A true Calgarian, Doug graduated from Crescent Heights High School and worked at Jenkins Grocery Store. He is a veteran of WW II having served in the Navy. A 40 year employee of the City of Calgary, he retired in 1979 as Chief City Assessor. During his working life and well into a healthy retirement, he served on the Stampede Board for 25 years. He had a passion for sports, travel and camping. Doug was a man who enjoyed the journey of life. A gentlemen’s gentleman, a friend and confident to all he met, who will be greatly missed by all his friends and family. His enthusiasm, principles and patience will live on in his children and grandchildren who loved him so very much. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
