Obituary of THOMSON – Robert Blair
November 13, 1933 – December 20, 2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Blair Thomson, who left us peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2010 at the age of 77 years, after a short and courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Blair was born in ThreeMile Town Scotland where he grew up. After High School, he attended Heriot-Watt College in Edinburgh to become a surveyor. He then lived in Linlithgow Scotland until he married the love of his life, Christine in 1956. Waiting until the birth of his daughter Christine Ann, Blair immigrated with his family to Calgary Canada in 1958. His family grew to include a son, Scott, who has since passed. Most of Blair’s career was spent with AGT (Telus) where he worked first in Installations, then Network Engineering until his retirement after 34 years. Blair enjoyed music and film of all kinds, reading, golf, squash and running, and both in Scotland and in Canada, was an avid soccer player and fan. In his later years, Blair became the number one fan of his soccer playing grandson Elliot. After retiring, when not enjoying golf, soccer, or a good Wilbur Smith book, Blair spent much of his time helping to look after his grandson and enjoying family and friends at home and at the lake. Blair was a loving husband, an amazing father and a dedicated grandfather. He had a great zest for life no matter the challenges, a mischievous sense of humour and an endless pool of optimism and good cheer, never worrying about himself, always thinking of others. For Blair, this truly was a Wonderful World.
Blair will be forever dearly missed by his beloved wife of fifty-four years Christine, loving daughter Christine and son-in-law Michael Hunter; grandson Elliot Hunter who was the joy of his life; mother Maisie Thomson; siblings Janette (Bill) McGillivray, Ann (Bill) Creighton, James (Patricia) Thomson, John Thomson, Marion (Merrill) Grant, Lyn Thomson (Allan), as well as his nieces and nephews, their children, the Hunter families and many friends. He was predeceased by his son Scott Thomson in 1974 and his father James Thomson in 1982.
