I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad that you did get to spend the time with Bob that you did. You deserved it.

It is very difficult to put into words what one feels when a friend and ‘mentor’ of many years passes away. Please accept mine and Linda’s condolences to you…for lack of ‘better’ words.

I have known Bob for all of the 26 years I have been involved in the turfgrass industry and treasure the many ‘professional discussions’ we had over those years. Bob had a passion for his chosen career and it was difficult not to be impressed with the manner with which he approached every day on the job. I learned much from him and greatly value all of the time I was able to spend with him, whether it was business-related or on a social level.

My best wishes go out to you and want you to know I will always remember Bob with a smile!

I am very sorry to hear the sad news of the loss of Bob. I think all the guys in the valley have really missed Bob and his sharp wit on the course, since he left for Calgary. Bob was one of the first to make me feel welcome when I moved out here and was truly a leader in our industry and a great guy as well.

It is with deep sadness that I send my condolences for the loss of Bob. When Trickle opened up in the early 90’s the bar was set for golf in our valley by Bob. His passion for the profession and the Springs was unsurpassed.

I thoroughly enjoyed our time together and the gentle ribbing that came along with that. Bob would phone and give us the line…”is this the Concrete and Clover Club”…I still get a smile when I hear that.

Bob single handedly got and kept the Kootenay chapter of the BCGSA going in the early years of the 90′. He would lead by example and take the time to attend every meeting know matter how great the distance.

I have nothing but fond memories of Bob and the legacy he left behind.

My wife Val and I are so sorry to hear about Bob. I was just thinking of him a short while ago. I often do at this time of the year because it’s about now when I make plans for the annual WCTA conference. I have many great memories of hanging out with Bob at the conferences. The last time it was held in Victoria, Bob was able to attend for the first time in a while. We spent an afternoon taking a drive up-island to my place for lunch and to get caught up on old times. It was great to see him in familiar surroundings again.

Another conference memory goes back to when Scott was probably about 6 years old when he and Maureen accompanied Bob to Victoria. We met in the lobby of the Empress Hotel where Bob took great pride in introducing me to his family for the first time.

A lot of years have gone by since then and I got to spend a lot of time with Bob….it was always a new adventure with a lot of laughs, and sometimes a bit of sound advice from Bob, who because of his experiences could offer an interesting perspective.

Maureen, you always made me feel very welcome when I visited your home. You and Bob were good at that. There was no effort required because it was genuine. That’s the way you were.

I’ve had many memorable moments with Bob, and I’ve heard of many from other people who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He will be missed and I’m certain he will always be remembered…..by me for sure.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Bob was my mentor in the turf management buisness. He steerd me towads Fairview college and gave me my first golfcourse job in 1991 at the Springs in Radium B.C. Bob was a very bright man and I really enjoyed listening to his opinions and having a good laugh together. I thank Bob for playimg an influential role in my career.

Dave, Moe, Scott. It has taken me a while to be able to write this. Bob and I went to Fairview together and he made the time there pass Quickly with his quick wit and his great out look on life. When Bob came to the valley I truly believed that this was the place for him, he was always there for me with great advice or support in some of the challenages that I was faced with at the time. Bob was very good at his craft. He could really grow grass and took pride in what he did, it showed in the way the Springs developed under his watch. I will really miss him and I will think of him every time I am out on the fairways of the Springs. I know that he will be looking down to see if I am taking care of his jewel. Dale

To all of Bob’s family we have lost a good man in Bob. I had the priviledge to learn alot from Bob, he will always be remembered by me as a person who always gave a hand (He never said no, or I am too busy) to give advise or a helping hand to his friends or his peers. I was saddened to hear that Bob passed away – my condolences to you and all of the family.

We always lived a good distance apart, so I only saw him on infrequent occasions, but I’ll always remember that his friendship was like we lived next door and saw each other once a week. His smile lit up every room he walked into.

I’ll miss those renewals of our friendship, as will all the rest of his many friends. He died much too soon.

I’m not sure if you remember me or not but I was a friend of Bobs, and fellow board member on the BCGSA with him in the 1990’s. We met at the Christmas parties that Bob was instrumental in having at the ranch outside of Cranbrook. I just want you to know that Bob was someone I always looked up to as a young superintendent, a mentor. Whenever I had a question on anything Bob was always willing to give his time to help me out. As you know Bob was always passionate about his career, and I learned to be that way from him myself. Unfortunately I won’t be able to say these things to him myself, but I want you to know how much he helped steer my career and passion as a golf course superintendent.

What can I say. Without you as a big brother I would never be the man I am today. You helped me out all through my live whether it be protecting me from older bullies or giving me guidence in picking a career that has proven to be the best decision of my life. Bob always loved golf. From a young age he caddied and played at the St Davids golf course and I think he always knew he would enter a career in golf. After working in Niagara Falls at various manufacturing plants he moved to Canmore Alberta in 1978 and started working at the Canmore golf & CC.. Bob always knew the benefits of education and how important it would be in making him the best he could be in his field. Hearing about an opprotunity to better himself at the Fairview College Turf program he jumped at the opprotunity. I think he was in the second graduating class out of Fairview and was in great company with some of the best superintendents Canada has ever seen. Bob moved to Turner Valley and took over at the local course which at that time was in need of repair. Bob always gave his heart and soul to whatever he did and in time changed the course into one of the best in Southern Alberta. At the same time I was recruited from Ontario to help him out with any and all crappy jobs he had which he could get no one else to do. (He taught me the value of a dollar and that there were no free rides. If you were passionate enough and worked hard enough you could succeed in anything you put your mind to. Sometimes he was more like a father to me than a brother) During his time in Turner Valley Bob was instrumental in starting the Southern Alberta Superintendents Association and made many great friendships along the way. In 1986 Bob got the chance to build a Les Furber designed golf course in Radium Hotsprings. He jumped at the opprotunity to show his talents and the rest is history. The course turned out to be one of the best in B.C.and Bob loved ever minute of it. (Well maybe not every minute). He loved the Valley, the area, the people, and the golf course and it showed in his work. He was a mentor to many and always had time for all no matter their needs. Bob was a devoted member of the Free and Accepted Masons of British Columbia And Yukon and was WM 1996. He was instrumental in me becoming a Mason; another thing I’m greatful for. Bob left the Valley to pursue his career in Alberta at the Carmoney Golf and C.C. in Dewinton, Alberta but his heart was always in the Columbia Valley. I understand he did an awesome job at Carmoney and the members thought very highly of him. Bob you will be missed by many. I love and will always love and remember you. I have another angel looking out for me. God speed and rest in peace. Thanks to all for the calls of condolence, it’s great to hear from everyone and to confirm what a great brother and man Bob was.
