Obituary of BULL BEAR – Harrison

September 7, 1925 – December 11, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved Harrison Bull Bear. He went home peacefully to be with the lord and reunite with his beloved wife Jane (Medicine Shield) Bull Bear (Mahnahkii) on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Harrison was born and raised on the Siksika Nation reserve where he attended the Old Sun Indian Residential School. In his early years, he enjoyed Hockey as a goalie for the Blackfoot Braves; and Rodeo as a saddle bronco rider; he also valued the traditional way of life, attending pow-wows. Harrison was a hard worker providing for his family as a coal-miner, farmer and horseman. He will be remembered for his gentle and humorous nature as well as his devotion to his treasured family especially his great granddaughter Cassandra. Harrison is survived by his children Reverend Rupert (Marie) Bull Bear, Evangeline (Joe) Leather and Floyd (Karen) Medicine Shield; the grandchildren he raised Shawn (Ellafaye) Medicine Shield, Rowena Yellow Old Woman; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers Robert (Rosemarie), Davis, Horace (Celeste) and sisters Roselyn, Bobbi and adopted sister Wanda Calf Robe. He also leaves to mourn numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. The family apologizes to those that may have been missed. He was also predeceased by children Celina, Elizabeth and Theresa Medicine Shield; brothers Harry and Gaby Bull Bear; sisters Joyce and Mary Ciline Bull Bear. We would like to extend our appreciation to the doctors and nurses who cared for him during his brief stay in the Medicine Hat Hospital. The wake services will be held at the residence of Joe and Evangeline Leather, Siksika Nation, Alberta on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 6:00 pm. Funeral Service will be celebrated at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Siksika Nation, Alberta on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Gary Laboucane, OMI, Presider. Graveside service to follow at the Little Washington Cemetery.
