Obituary of PENMAN – John

June 9, 1924 – December 10, 2010 It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and papa on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the age of 86 years. Jack (Papa) was born on June 9, 1924 in Cardenden Fifeshire, Scotland. He immigrated in 1929 with his parents and siblings to Canada and came to reside in Nordegg, Alta. In 1955, Jack and Marion moved to Calgary, where they have resided ever since. Jack and Marion enjoyed many trips back to Nordegg every year to spend time with many of their childhood friends. Papa’s greatest passion was spending time with his family and his grandchildren were the loves of his life. Being surrounded by his family made him the happiest man on earth. We are all so grateful to have been able to have him at home with us in his final days. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of sixty three years Marion, his cherished children Jim (Rita), Roxanne (Boyd), and adored grandchildren Shelley (Trevor), Melissa, Brock, and Brett. He is survived by his siblings Elizabeth Marzetti, Margo (John) Smith, and George Penman, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father James, his mother Elizabeth, brother James (Cork), brother-in-law and childhood friend Frankie Marzetti. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would love to express our deepest gratitude, to all the doctors and nurses at the Foothills Emergency Room for giving Papa all their exceptional care. Thank you Dr. Soolsma and the nurses on ward 32 for all of your compassion and caring during Papa’s stay in the hospital. But most of all, the ladies from Palliative Care and Home Care, we called these ladies our angels. Cathy Rasmussen, who helped us bring Papa home as soon as possible and Kathleen Russell who became part of the family in just a short few days. Words cannot express our gratitude to all of you. Last but not least the compassionate care of the nurses from Home Care that helped keep Papa comfortable. In living memory of Jack Penman, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
