Obituary of HADDOW – Lorna Joy

September 7, 1919 – December 9, 2010 Lorna beloved wife of Douglas of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the age of 91 years. Lorna, daughter of Irene Jowsey Ellard and Wright Ellard and one of three children. She was a graduate of the Montreal General Hospital School for Nurses, and a post graduate of McGill University. She was head nurse at the M.G.H. and men’s surgery, a nursing instructor at the Kingston General and Calgary General, a lieutenant nursing sister at Camp Border, St. Anno’s and Montreal Military. Later she served in various positions in home and school including provincial president and was a trustee on the Calgary Public Library Bd, for nine years, as well as numerous positions as chairman on the Alberta Library Trustees Association and serving two terms as president. The Haddows lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Shawnee and later Dawson Creek, and Calgary. The family loved to travel and enjoyed trips to a number of cities in Europe. Including Yugoslavia as it was then, Madrid, Morroco, and later in Thailand and California. There was also a trip on a canal in England, it was the wettest summer in fourty years. Lorna is survived by her husband Douglas Haddow, son Ian and cousins in Ontario and Quebec. She was predeceased by her two brothers Harold and Kenneth. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
