Obituary of FLOOD – Irene Violet

December 21, 1921 – December 6, 2010 It is with great sadness that the family of Irene announce her passing. Irene always considered herself a “Native Calgarian,” but those close to her, know that she was actually born in Vancouver, and lived there for her first month. Following graduation from Crescent Heights High School, Irene became a Registered Nurse at Holy Cross Hospital, graduating in 1944. Irene joined the VON, and it was through a posting in Ontario, that she met Norman. Irene’s love of the mountains brought her back to Calgary, with Norm in pursuit. In 1951 they were married in Calgary, and soon after began their family. They moved into the community of Wildwood, where they happily raised their five children. In 1981, Norm passed away suddenly at home. Irene was always thankful for the support and love of her family, neighbours and friends. Irene remained in her home until January 2010, when she suffered a heart attack and a number of subsequent strokes. Irene is survived by her brother Norman Sheasby (Ann), of Ontario, and her four sons, David (Susan), Jim (Laurie), Wayne (Charlotte) and Murray (Loretta), and her daughter Cathy Reesor (Ken), her grandchildren Warren, Sean, Ryan, Duncan, Jannah, Emily and Gavin, and Great Grandson Jackson. A celebration of Irene’s life will be held on the anniversary of her birth, December 21, at Parkdale United Church (2919 8 Avenue N.W.) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
