Obituary of WEISNER – Gary Wayne

August 26, 1938 – December 4, 2010 After a long, brave struggle with ill health, the family is sad to announce the passing of their beloved husband and father. Gary was born in Calgary in 1938, the son of Lydia and Alex Weisner. He grew up in the Bridgeland area, attending Crescent Heights High School and Luther College in Regina. He leaves behind to celebrate his life his wife of fifty-two years, Janet Weisner; three children, Karen (Colin) Kinley, Steve (Deanna) Weisner, Linda (Dallas) Miller; and three grandchildren, Austin, Mark and Cooper. Gary is also survived by his older brother Gerald (Dorothy) Weisner and his sister Peggy (Robert) Campbell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many long and loyal friends. Gary was a successful advertising executive, beginning his career with Hook Signs in Calgary, then moving to a radio station in Edmonton, and back to Calgary, where he worked for CKXL, CFCN and finally CBC Television. Gary was Mr. Fit. He ran five miles each day, played squash, worked out at the YMCA, and was a long-time member of the Elks golf club. He was also very active in his church, Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, as Church Council President, Chairman of the Building Committee and Sunday School Teacher. Although left terribly incapacitated due to complications from surgery in 1998, his love for his family, his zest for life, his positive attitude and his refusal to ever complain, will serve as a positive example for all those who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank the staff at Father Lacombe Care Centre for the exemplary care and love they have provided to Gary over the last three years.
