Obituary of McRAE – Ian Malcolm

December 26, 1922 – December 1, 2010 Rev. Ian McRae of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the age of 87 years. Father McRae was born in Saskatoon, SK. on December 26, 1922. He received his education in Saskatoon and in Toronto. He joined the Basilian Fathers and was ordained a priest at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Toronto on June 29, l952. He served at Basilian Fathers’ schools and parishes from l953 until l967 in the Province of Ontario. He also served at Assumption parish in Lethbridge with the Basilian Fathers. In l971 Father McRae joined the clergy of the Diocese of Calgary and served at St. Michael’s, Calgary and at the parishes of Acadia Valley, Canmore and Airdrie. He resided in retirement for a number of years at Dorchester Square and his latter years were spent at Father Lacombe Nursing Home. Father Ian was a dedicated and faithful pastor and served with generosity and sensitivity for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hiker. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) Thursday, (today) December 2, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be concelebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with The Most Reverend Frederick B.
