Obituary of WIEBE – Jacqueline
September 21, 1933 – November 28, 2010
Jacqueline June (Jackie), beloved wife of John Wiebe of Calgary, passed away on November 28, 2010 at the age of 77 years.
Jackie was born in Medicine Hat, AB on September 21, 1933, the second daughter of Jack and Hilda Lust of Box Springs, AB. Jackie started school at east Coulee School. The family moved to Etzikom in 1941 when the federal Government appropriated the land north of Medicine Hat for defense training purposes. Jackie continued school in Etzicom and Foremost. Following Jack’s death in 1949, Hilda moved her family to Foremost in 1950. Shortly after, Jackie met her future husband John, while she was working at the Foremost Hotel. John was driving the delivery truck; mom asked him if he needed any help unloading. Afterwards, he took her for a drive in the truck (to finish his deliveries) … and she’s been riding shotgun ever since. They were married December 15, 1953. John and Jackie lived all over S. Alberta and Saskatchewan, before finally settling down in Calgary in 1958. In 1974 John and Jackie started a small company called Arjon Construction, which they turned into a very successful gravel crushing company throughout the 80’s and 90’s. Though semi-retired, she kept active in the company until recently. In 1987 John and Jackie moved just outside of Calgary to an acreage just south of Shepard, and in 1992 they went to visit friends in Yuma, AZ, where her and John have been going every winter since. Jackie loved her gardens, to read a good book, especially out in the sun, cards, crosswords, traveling and family. Yuma will never be the same without Jackie down there on Ironwood Drive hosting “full moon” parties, pot luck dinners, desert runs with the dune buggies, and wiener roasts. She’ll be dearly missed by all her family, friends, and business acquaintances, as well as the “Red Hat Ladies” down in Yuma.
Jackie is survived by her husband John; sons, Darryl (Serena) and Darren; grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Meagan, Jordan and Skylar; sisters, Sylvia Robinson of Victoria, BC, Betty (John) Van Staalduine of Foremost, AB, Norma (Harold) Graham of Calgary, AB, and Shirley (Charles) Buckler of Salmon Arm, BC. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Hilda Lust; and her only brother James.
