Obituary of HIBBERD – Kathleen Kay Agnes

1920 – 2010 After a long, happy, and fulfilling life, Kathleen Agnes Hibberd (nee Ford) died on November 28, 2010, in Calgary, Alberta. Kathleen was born on November 26, 1920, in Wanstead and grew up in Leytonstone, Essex. She volunteered and served with the ATS from 1939 to 1945, working in operations with the new RADAR technology. She married Raymond Hibberd in 1943 and, in 1950, immigrated to Canada with Ray and their two daughters. They spent a number of years in Quebec, and then, in 1963, moved west to Calgary. Kathleen worked for many years with the Calgary Family Service Bureau, where clients benefited from the active, practical, unselfish type of caring that her family knew so well. In her leisure time, Kathleen enjoyed oil painting, sewing, and quilting. But, flower gardening was the passion that lasted a lifetime and to which she devoted many happy hours in her retirement years. After sixty-one years of marriage, Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, in 2005. She is survived by daughters Barbara Hibberd of Calgary and Jennifer Fenwick (Peter) of Cape St. George, Newfoundland, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Kathleen also valued the close relationship that she maintained over the years, through letters, telephone calls, and occasional visits, with her family in England. Even nieces and nephews born long after Kathleen left England kept her updated through letters, postcards, and, latterly, emails on their changing activities and growing families, and welcomed her enthusiastically when she was able to visit in person. She is survived by brothers Don, Ken (Grace), and Tom (Eve) – all of Loughton, Essex – as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
