Obituary of MOONEY – John Jack Wendell

June 1, 1918 – November 26, 2010 Jack Mooney passed away peacefully in hospital on Friday, November 26, 2010 at the age of 92 years. He was born in Weyburn, Sask. June 1, 1918. He lived on the farm with his parents and older brother. Jack was four years old when his father was killed in a farming accident. His mother later remarried and the family moved to California. Jack returned to Weyburn to complete high school. His neighbour Tommy Douglas encouraged Jack to enroll in Brandon University. It was there he met Phyllis and they married July 1, 1942. Shortly after Jack was posted overseas for 2 ½ years and served as a Captain for the Regina Rifles. He requested discharge to Toronto where his family had moved. He joined Canada Life Ins, but soon ventured west to take on the challenge of running the family farm. In coming years he would move and change careers in management with General Motors and Husky Oil. In 1963, Jack moved to Calgary to rejoin Canada Life Ins.; he later joined Rocky Mountain Life Ins. and finally he owned and managed Scotts Travel Agency. Jack and Phyl were active members of the Calgary Gyro Club and developed lasting friendships. Upon retirement he enjoyed many travel adventures and enjoyed his beautiful garden. Jack was predeceased by his brother, Don and his beloved Phyl in 1988. He will be sadly missed by his four children: Marilyn (Marvin) of Kamloops BC, Bob of Phoenix AZ, Carol (Blaine) and Maureen, both of Calgary; grandchildren Lisa (Barry), Wendy, Jenna and Colby; great grandchildren Tyler and Kyle and his nephew and family in California. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through .
