Obituary of PARK –Al Sidney

August 2, 1914– November 24, 2010 Al Park, beloved husband of Irene Park of Calgary, passed away on November 24, 2010 at the age of 96 years. Al was born in Calgary and on graduating from Crescent Heights High School attended the U of A in Civil Engineering for two years before leaving to assist in his father’s plant-nursery business. In 1936 he went to England where he attended a Polytechnic Institute for three years and received a certificate in Telecommunication Engineering. By the time of WWII he was employed as an electronic factory inspector. He also worked on PLUTO (pipeline under the ocean) which supplied fuel for the invading Armies and support services in France. Upon returning to Canada from the war he began employment with Inspection Services and Corporate affairs for the Federal Government. Al was the 4th member of the Native Calgarian Society, an active member of Good Companions, and the founding member of the Alberta Model Engineer Society. Besides his loving wife, Al is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Anna Park; daughter and son-in-law Gillian and Greg Strauski; and four step-sons, Keith, Douglas, Ernie and Barry Bienia. He was predeceased by his first wife Gwendoline Park and his second wife Esther Park. A Gathering of family and friends will be held at Good Companions (2609 – 19th Avenue SW) on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm.
