Obituary of KAYSER – Dorothy Kayser

February 6, 1917 – November 23, 2010 Dorothy Kayser passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the age of 93 years. Predeceased by her beloved husband Robert (Bob) in 2001, Dorothy will be greatly missed by her children Robert (Alexandra) of London ON, Thomas (Dolores) of Midland ON, Linda (Ed Flanagan) of Calgary, as well as grandchildren Deborah (Brian Fennell), RJ (Rebecca) Melanie (Ian Grant), Patrick (Kathleen Hinkel), Kyla (Dax Head) and Paul (Trisha Boyle) and six great-grandchildren: Jack, Kaylee, Oliver, Jacob, Kieran and Nolan. Dorothy was born on February 6, 1917 in Montreal, where she attended École des Beaux Arts, worked as a commercial artist and married Bob in 1941. Bob’s career with the Bank of Montreal led them to live in five provinces from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Along the way they established many lifelong friendships that Dorothy faithfully nurtured over their sixty-year marriage. Dorothy studied at the Ontario College of Art and Langara College. She was an accomplished artist who worked in oils, watercolours, sculpture and needlework. She and Bob enjoyed twenty-five happy years of retirement in Vancouver. Following Bob’s passing, Dorothy moved back to Calgary to be closer to Linda and her family. Although well into her eighties at the time, she continued to make many new friends and enjoyed many years playing Bridge, teaching watercolour classes and participating actively in her Church and community. She was an inspiration to her family and friends, epitomizing the art of aging with grace, optimism and humour. During the last months of her life, Dorothy was blessed by many wonderful caregivers at the Fanning Centre, Staywell Manor, Rockyview Hospital and Chinook Hospice. Memorial Services will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Vancouver at a later date.
