Obituary of MOYNIHAN – Michael Joseph

May 19, 1916 – November 16, 2010 We are sad to announce the passing of Michael Moynihan on November 16, 2010 at the age of 94 years. Michael was born and raised in Birmingham England. At the beginning of World War II he joined the Royal Air Force and was posted to the BCATP Base in Medicine Hat where he met his wife and best friend Vera. After the war they settled in Canada where he had a long career with Gulf Oil. Together they had six children, Francis, Dennis, Kathy (Gul), Sheila, Terry (Marg) and Chris (Susan). Michael was a gentle and loving father, devoted to providing his children with everything they would need to live full and happy lives. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and his five grandchildren, Brian, Paul, Hannah, Bridget and Jesse. He is also survived by his sister Mary Lewis. Throughout his life, he was very active in Calgary charities, including the Cerebral Palsy Association, Calgary HandiBus, Meals on Wheels, St. Michael’s Parish and the Calgary RC Diocese Mission Council. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, music, dancing, crosswords, scrabble and writing letters to the editor. Michael spent his last years at Wentworth Manor where he enjoyed a happy and peaceful life. His family will always be grateful for the kind and generous care he received there. Michael was predeceased by his brother Francis, his son Francis, and his wife Vera. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (4718 Worcester Drive S.W.) on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Edenbrook Memorial Gardens.
