She was born in Lipa, Slovenia, worked in France as a teenager to send money home and fled Europe by herself prior to Second World War. Together they started homesteading in the Vauxhall area working as partners, driving tractors, putting in crops and raising livestock. They had an idyllic family farm, complete with red barn and white fence, tall crops and lush flowers and vegetable gardens, prized poultry and the sweetest corn. They were proud and loving parents to their three daughters. In 1963, they retired to enjoy Calgary and travelled extensively in both Europe and the United States. They were active both at St. Mary’s Cathedral and their final parish, St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church. Barbara remained independently active into her 90’s, travelling and cruising extensively with her daughter Ann, her best friend and constant companion. She was a kind, gentle and loving lady, always with an eye for beauty, never complaining, loved and cherished by all.
