Obituary of MACARAEG – Alejandro Magtaan

September 4, 1921 – November 14, 2010 Alejandro (“Andong”) Macaraeg, beloved husband of Modesta Macaraeg for sixty seven years, and son of Silverio and Fernanda, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the age of 89 years in Calgary, AB. Alejandro is survived by his sister Dionisia Galsim in the Philippines. In life, he was blessed with twelve children: Lydia, Juanito (Julieta), Roberto (Jovita), Angelita (Alexander), Evangeline (Diosdado), Evelyn (Cesar), Virginia (Ireneo), Violeta (Michael), Ricardo, Ofelia (Antonio), Eduardo, and Nelson (Irene); twenty-three grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family still in the Philippines. He worked as a security guard at Clark Field Airbase in Angeles City, Philippines, to support his family, but by trade he was a horologist, as well as a businessman. When he immigrated to Calgary in 1982, “Andong” became lovingly known as “Andy”. He was an avid fisherman, loved the outdoors and always being surrounded by his family. His humour, smile and love will be missed; he was truly a blessing from God. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Eastside Memorial Chapel (5388 Memorial Drive N.E.) on Thursday, November 18, 2010 and Friday, November 19, 2010 starting at 5:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church (5552 Madigan Drive N.E.) on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 12:00 pm.
