Obituary of SHYMANSKI – Victor

August 3, 1925 – November 13, 2010 Victor Shymanski lived an amazing and wonderful life. With his soul-mate Lore, he travelled the world and raised a family. He was known as a gentle man and as a “Gentleman”. He was quick with a smile, to offer you his seat, to tell you a joke, to share his wine, or to remind you of the last ace he made in tennis. Victor was in the R.C.A.F. in the 40’s, and a geologist in the 50’s. He married Lore in 1958, and began teaching in the 60’s. After relocating to Calgary in 1964, Vic and Lore packed up the family and headed off to teach in Blantyre, Malawi, in Kingstown, St. Vincent, and Windermere, BC, before returning to Calgary in 1970. He retired from teaching at Queen Elizabeth High School at the age of 63 and spent the next 22 years enjoying his family, playing tennis and bridge at the Winter Club, travelling, and tinkering with his ‘67 MGB. Victor was a pilot, a poet, a teacher and a musician. He was an extraordinary husband and father and will be dearly missed by those who knew him. Victor is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; his daughter Kathy Kaiser (Ted); sons, Greg Shymanski (Robyn Donald) and Chris Shymanski; grandchildren, Chelsey Kaiser, Genevieve Shymanski, Dylan Assen and Ryan Assen. He is also survived by his brothers, Benny (Jean) and Adolph (Emelie); his sister Genny, and many nephews and nieces. Vic was predeceased by brothers, Al, Walter and Joseph; sister Helen; and sisters-in-law, Fran and Sadie. A Celebration of Victor’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Victor’s honour may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, www.albertacancer.ca/memorial or to the Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program, www.redcross.ca.
