Obituary of CHANT – Roderick Havelock
July 19, 1921 – November 12, 2010
Roderick (Rod) Havelock Chant, born on July 19, 1921 to Dr. and Mrs. R. H. Chant at Foam Lake, SK, Rod survived WWII but lost his battle with old age and illness on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the age of 89 years.
Retired since 1985, Rod had time to enjoy some travel, curling, golfing, volunteering and secretly cheering for the Saskatchewan Roughriders because they represented his home province which he, always with a grin, referred to as “The Old Country”. We will miss that wit.
Rod is survived by his loving family, wife Vivian; son Jack (Carole); very special grandson Dylan Roderick David Chant; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Kim Barlow Chant in 1974; his parents; both sisters; and best friend Bill Wilson.
At Rod’s request, there will be no formal service. A private family memorial will be held to celebrate Rod’s life. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #204, 2323 – 32nd Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 6Z3 Telephone: (403) 266-0620, ext. 112, www.diabetes.ca or a charity of the donor’s choice. Special thanks to the East Wing staff at Father Lacombe Care Centre.
In living memory of Rod Chant, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.
