Obituary of CLAEREN – George Anthony Marie
June 4, 1951 – November 7, 2010
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of George Claeren. Beloved husband of Patricia Claeren, while sharing in their 36th year of marriage. Proud father of son Michael, daughter Josie Senft, and son-in-law Keith Senft. George leaves behind his mother Tineke, siblings Robert, Port Elgin, ON, and from London, ON, Patrick, Ingrid, and Saskia (James). Sister-in-law Maria (Ken) Stauffer, Sundre, AB, and brother-in-law Tom Silverthorne, Newmarket, ON, along with nieces and nephews in Canada and England and extended family in Holland.
George was predeceased by his father Adrian, and siblings Henri and Michelle, and father-in-law Donald Silverthorne.
Friends Geordie Hansen, Nell Thomas, Eileen & Terry Layden, Bev & Duncan Badger, Robyn Gillard. New family Kathy & Dennis Quinlan, Mark (Niki) Senft, and Robert Burton. His sidekicks Baxter and Bruno.
George was born in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and came to Canada with his parents, and brothers Robert and Henri. He was the proud wearer of the Dutch “orange”! He grew up in London, ON, where he met Patricia. Together they moved to the Toronto area, until they came to Calgary, AB, in 1988. George’s passions included family game night, music, the Calgary Flames and New York Islander hockey teams, and his work at the Foothills Hospital Medical Centre. For George there was only one way to do the job, the right way! George was a long time employee of CN Rail in London & Toronto. He was a proud volunteer of Block Watch for 10 years. George was a great collector of music, interesting bells, piggy banks, insulators, and of course anything related to bears.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and health care related workers that supported George, including the exceptional end-of-life care at the Agape Hospice. Thank you to his co-workers at FMC that provided on-going emotional support.
