Obituary of HOLDEN – Beatrice Winnifred
July 24, 1924 – November 6, 2010
Beatrice Holden of Calgary passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the age of 86 years.
Beatrice was born in Calgary to parents Kathleen A and F. Morgan (Tiny) Holden. Beatrice went to Alexandra Elementary School to Grade eight and spent a winter at Olds Agriculture College. The rest of her education was the “School of Hard Knocks”, enhancing her many talents. Beatrice was a great person around animals. She learned to ride English saddle at a very young age and though she rode in Calgary and area horse shows she would rather keep it to the ranch. Her love was looking after livestock, such as the show horses and, later, when her Dad went into Thoroughbred racing, she looked after the stock at her home. Beatrice raised Dexter cattle and showed them at the local shows. After her mother passed she lived alone until three years ago, when her health began to fail. Beatrice moved into Evergreen retirement home for her remaining time.
Beatrice is survived by her twin brother Desmond (Ada); younger brother Arthur (Helen); nephews and nieces, Patricia Holden, Joan Winstone, Joyce and Elaine Holden, Linda “Angelique” (Lloyd) Sumpter, Morgan Holden (Maureen Higgins), Kevin (Trish) Holden, Fred (Wendy) Griffiths, Kay Griffiths, and Arlene Garcia. She was predeceased by her parents and older sister Myfanwy Griffiths.
