Obituary of VIGNA – John
April 2, 1955 – October 23, 2010
John Vigna, beloved husband of Gina of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the age of 55 years.
John was Gina’s best friend, soul mate and partner and the best father any daughter could ever wish for.
John was a teacher for Calgary Catholic School District for 33 years. He was a well-respected, dedicated teacher that had a passion for teaching history and making it come alive. He taught International Baccalaureate History for many years at St. Mary’s High School. Prior to this, John taught at St. Rose, St. Helena, St. Hubert (Assistant Principal), St. Stephen’s (Assistant Principal). His last school was Notre Dame High School. He is remembered fondly by many, as a man of great character with an optimistic attitude and a love for life. John was happiest spending time with his loving wife and his daughters. He was proud of his daughter’s accomplishments, whether it be through academics or sports. Traveling, cooking, gardening, football and cars were John’s passion. John will always be remembered for his smile and his ability to make friends. He touched so many people’s lives and will be dearly missed.
John is survived by his two beautiful daughters, Carina and Marisa, who were the joy of his life. Besides his loving wife of twenty five years, John is survived by his father, Luigi Vigna; his sister Maria (Luigi) Masocco, brother Frank (Gina) Vigna, and nieces Diana (Carlo) Staffa, Claudia (Joe) Laratta, Lisa (Tony) Mungo, Roberto (Jenn) Vigna, and their children. He is also survived by his niece Ava (Mario) Caputo, and his nephews Dario Vigna, Mike and Joe De Michele. John is also survived by his in laws, Luca and Maria Di Manno, and his sister-in-law, Rita De Michele as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his mother, Paolina Vigna.
Special thanks to Dr. Katherine Johns, Dr. Karyn Richardson and all the staff at Crowfoot Village Family Practice for their care and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. John Graham and Dr. Scot Dowden for helping to restore our faith in the medical system and to nurses Charlene, Wendy and other staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive N.W.) on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
