Obituary of WORDEN – Gwen

January 30, 1922 – October 20, 2010 Remember me when the flowers bloom in the spring, I will be forever near, for I live within your hearts. Gwen was born in Calgary at the Holy Cross to Richard and Olive Stanton and lived her whole childhood on the family farm near Priddis. Second oldest of six children, she was always busy with family and farm chores creating many happy memories to share. Gwen met her husband, Bob Worden, at the end of her driveway when he was the rural mailman. They married on November 15, 1944 at St. Paul’s Chapel in Midnapore and resided at their Midnapore home beside the Worden’s Market Garden for 46 years. All four children were raised there. In 1990, mum and dad built their “retirement” home west of Priddis. Gwen spent 80 years of her life just north of Highway 22X! In 2002 Gwen moved west of Millarville to spend 7 years with her daughter, Sue, and her family on their farm. Mum recently lived in High River to enjoy time with her daughter, Joan. Her homes were surrounded with lovely flowers and gardens which flourished under her green thumb. Gwen’s hands were never idle as she knitted and crochet many items that she so lovingly gave away to relatives, preemies, and those in need. The Worden home was often filled with family and friends for many gatherings. Gwen’s children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their offspring meant the world to her and they grew up listening to her wonderful stories of her childhood and snuggling under a handmade blanket or scarf. Mum took her last breath in the High River Hospital with family surrounding her. There to meet Gwen are her husband Bob (2000), parents Ritchie and Olive Stanton, sister Cub Gerlitz, brothers Gordon and Richard Stanton. Mum will be forever cherished by her children and grandchildren: Joan (Lorne) Kayfish, Robert (Ginny), Adam and Tyler Worden, Ruth (Dane), Ryan (Sherisse) and Carmen Hansford, and Sue (Bernie), Doug (Jeana), Don, Scott, Ben and Brent Arkes. Love also by special sister Mary (Ken) Cameron and her little brother Ray (Anna) Stanton and sister-in-law Vi Stanton and a bundle of special nieces and nephews and their families. May mum’s memories and stories live on in those she left behind. Celebration of Gwen’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
