Obituary of VOURI – Frederick Grant

June 30, 1930 – October 6, 2010 Calgary lost a native son when Grant Vouri passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the age of 80. He was predeceased by Leslie Jean, his wife of forty years, and his brother Maurice (aka “Buddy”). Grant is survived by his daughter Dawna Michaud (Chris Freeborn); his sons, Cameron (Julie) and Kurtis (Janice); four grandchildren, Owen, Garrett, Carter, and Madeline; and his brother Glen. After graduating from Crescent Heights High School in Calgary and experiencing life and jobs that took him to places as far away as California, Grant began a career in the oil & gas industry with Union Oil of Canada that extended over thirty years. Returning to Calgary from an assignment in the Peace River country, Grant met and married Leslie and raised his family. Grant’s passions were his family, his community and music. Grant was not only a resident of the Brentwood Community for nearly fifty years, he also made significant contributions to minor sports in Calgary. Grant coached and managed hockey teams over many years and worked tirelessly on the development, fundraising and construction of the Brentwood Sportsplex. He also relished the opportunity to contribute his wit and piano playing to any social event.
