Obituary of SWALLING – Edith May

March 7, 1922 – September 28, 2010 Edith May Swalling died peacefully at Agape Hospice in Calgary on September 28, 2010 at the age of 88. She is survived by her loving son, Bill; daughter-in-law Jane and her 2 grandchildren, Graham and Ian Swalling, of Denver, CO. Edith was pre-deceased by her loving husband Eric; by her beloved son Douglas; and by her dear brother, Dr. Ross Thomas of Newington, CT; and her parents William (Bill) and Margaret (Peggy) Thomas. She is survived by her dear sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Proudfoot of Calgary, niece Sylvia Proudfoot and nephew Darryl (Peggy) Proudfoot and their children Jennifer and Jocelyn. She is also survived by her nieces Rosemary Burchell and Margaret (Craig) Edwards and their children Maryn and Kurt. Edith is survived by nephew George (Monica) Fox and their children Anna and Ruby. She is survived by sister-in-law Aggie Thomas and her children Christine (Jimmy) Thomas- Melly, Craig Thomas, Jan (Roy) Barret, John (Lory Wylott) Thomas and their families. Edith is survived by nephew Jack (Carol) McKay, nephew Wayne (Lorna) Miller and their children Bonnie and Lisa; niece Karen (Rick) Christiansen and their children Dayna and Jillian. Edith was born in Calgary and raised on a farm at Indus, AB where she rode horseback to school and later was a graduate of Calgary Normal School. She taught elementary school at Midnapore and Calgary. During WW2 she worked for #4 Command RCAF. Edith loved children, greatly appreciated and respected nature, especially birds and she delighted in picnics with her family in Kananaskis country. She enjoyed researching family history and crocheting. Edith will be remembered for her loving ways; her gentle, patient nature; her sense of adventure and determination. Her approach to life inspired our family and will always be remembered. Special thanks to Millrise Place staff for providing loving care for Edith. Our family is thankful for the compassionate care provided by the Agape Hospice. Thanks also to the care staff at Unit 73, Rocky View Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Sarit Sengar for caring so ably for Edith. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service with Reverend Doug Priestap officiating on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the S.
