Obituary of HILL – Joseph Bernard

April 29, 1921 – September 23, 2010 His passing was brought on by a subdural hemorrhage. Joe is lovingly remembered and survived by his second wife, Magdalena Grayson and his children Joseph (Nancy) and Dana of Calgary, and Beth (Terry) of Ottawa, his grandchildren Britt (Will) and Scott, a brother Pat (Carol) of Victoria, sisters-in-law Betty and Elma, stepchildren Gail, Charles (Chris) and many other relatives and friends including Helen (Fritz) and Jamie. He was predeceased by his first wife of 56 years Norma Jean (McPhail) (1923-2002) and a son Vincente Loring (1960-1996). He was born in Fort William, ON. He served in the Canadian Navy from 1941-1945 and took rightful pride in having received two consecutive good conduct stripes for his war service to Canada as an able seaman. From 1946 to 1951 he worked as a journeyman plasterer in Fort William. After moving to Calgary in 1951 he began JB Hill Plasterers and Stucco and his work graces many Calgary homes, apartments and churches giving evidence of his eye for beauty and competent construction inside and out. He retired in 1986 to Vancouver and returned here in 1991. We hope heaven offers him lots of cribbage, bridge, gardens, and books. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. The family gratefully acknowledges the kindness and friendship of the Kerby Centre bridge/cribbage groups and the 10:30 Mass regulars at St. Mary’s (especially Father Dennis McDonald).
