Obituary of GERNHARD – Eugen Benno

April 24, 1935 – September 22, 2010 It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Eugen Benno Gernhard, beloved husband of Olga of Calgary, on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the age of 75 years. Eugen was born in Lutz, Poland and came to Canada with his parents, Alfred and Else in 1950. The family eventually settled in Winnipeg, MB. There he began his thirty-two year career with Great-West Life. He was a devoted member of Lutheran Church of the Cross and it was there that he met his wife Olga. In 1997, after retiring, they moved to Calgary, AB to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his second career as a Wal-Mart greeter where his friendly and kind demeanour was a natural fit. Eugen and Olga celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on September 3, 2010. Besides his loving wife Olga, Eugen is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathy; daughter and son-in-law, Cinthia and Ian; grandchildren, Kristin, Bryce, Collin and Cody; and extended family in Manitoba and British Columbia. A Celebration of Eugen’s Life will be held at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour (8831 Fairmount Drive S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 0Z4) on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
