COLQUHOUN Randi

Obituary of COLQUHOUN – Randi

March 10 ,1921 – September 21, 2010 Randi Colquhoun, beloved wife of Gordon Colquhoun and mother of Patti Shannon, passed away peacefully and painlessly after a long, healthy life of 89 years. Randi was born in Veteran, Alberta on March 10, 1921. She graduated from Coronation High School and went on to work for the Toronto Dominion Bank in various small towns around Alberta. Her interests in the arts lead her to attend the Banff School of Fine Arts in its first year of operation at its current Tunnel Mountain location. There she studied piano, as well as painting under Roland Gissing. Since supporting herself as an artist was not an easy endeavour, Randi’s practical side lead her to graduate from Henderson College of Business in Calgary. She worked as a secretary at Dome Petroleum and the City of Calgary Parks Department. In her free time she modelled for several Calgary ladies’ wear shops. Randi met her husband, Gordon, on a blind date and had 55 wonderful years of marriage. While being a terrific mother to her daughter, Patti, she studied piano and received her ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Canada. She subsequently taught piano to more than 250 children over 31 years. Randi was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren and was much loved and appreciated by each of them. Randi also truly appreciated all the wonderful Shannon family gatherings, with their lively conversations, music, and Randi’s sweet potatoes. Randi will be dearly missed by her devoted husband Gordon, her daughter Patti Shannon (Danny Shannon), and her grandchildren Kelly, Cory and Tara Shannon. Randi is survived by her sister Ann Walhovd and brother Robert Ekrol (Noel), her brother-in-law Grant Colquhoun (Irene) as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church (924 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Randi Colquhoun, a tree will be planted at Big Hills Springs Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.
