Condolences
Rest in peace my love. Laura was lucky to have a lifetime with you, you were an amazing man. Our time may have been brief but it was oh so magical. I think of you and what we shared often.. No one knows, more than I what a fighter you were right till the very end. You will always have a peice of my heart. Love you for always.
Dear Andrea,
Please accept my deepest condolences. I just heard about your dad passing and was truly shocked. It was just last week that I was talking about the time we spent together in Innsbruck and Vienna. We laughed a lot over dinner and beers.
He was a great man and it was my privilege to have known Spencer.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Please accept condolences from Spencer’s friends and colleagues at Field Aviation, past and present. Spencer was indeed a well respected professional in his field and will indeed be missed by all.
Dear Andrea and David, I was so sorry to hear of your father’s passing.
I knew Spencer in the 60’s and 70’s and always thought of him as a kind and caring person. My sympathies go out to both of you at this
very difficult time. Mary Cullen
Spencer,
I am shocked to hear about this terrible news. I will always remember our time in Austria together, your professionalism and your legendary sense of humor. I have learnt many things from you and I deeply respected you. You have been for me an example to follow. Rest in peace my friend. We will miss you a lot in Field Service.
Dying commences the day we are born, something we never really think about, or refuse to think about due to our pre-occupation with living. How we live the days we have is extremely important.
Spencer was honourable in his endeavors, thoughtful in his speech, conscientious in his actions and the way he lived his life, with an amazing sense of humour. These are the enduring memories.
“You can shed tears that he is gone,
or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all he’s left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him only that he is gone,
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what he’d want:
smile, open your eyes love and go on.”
Spencer you are with us for what you have shared.
My sincere condolences to your family, I was very saddened to hear this news today. I attended the AMET course at SAIT with Spencer in the early eighties where we first met, we kept in touch now and again over the years. I helped renew his AME license a time or two and we spoke over the phone on occasion when he was overseas. It was a great pleasure to know and work with Spencer and he will be missed by his freinds in the aviation community.
Sincerely

I have known your Dad since he joined Bombardier, and even though we didn’t speak often, when we did it was if no time had passed between our conversations.
Spencer was a man of many talents and passions in his life and probably at the top of that list was his family. He always spoke of both of you with such pride and joy.
He will be missed by all of those who were lucky enough to know him and I offer my deepest sympathy to you both.

Even if I haven’t had the honor to work with Spencer I met him a few times at the Bombardier conferences. Spencer was a great FSR and a good friend for a lot of our colleagues. He will be missed in the FSR family. Rest in peace Spencer.
Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Dear David and Andrea
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. You’re Dad and I met back in the 80’s when we were both working at Field Aviation and over the years we became good friends. I visited Spencer and Laura a few times when they lived in Innsbruck and we had lots of laughs over a few beers and dinner. When he returned to Calgary we would get together and chat or get out playing golf, I just wish we could have got out skiing but it seemed our schedules never meshed. I know he was very proud of you both. He will be sorely missed.
Sincerely
Mike Boettcher
I write this with deep sorrow and loss of a true friend.
I have known Spencer for many years as we had worked together around the world prior to Spencer joining Bombardier as an FSR. Since then I was fortunate to have him as a greatly valued FSR and colleague who could always be trusted and relied upon. Spencer and I had a true passion for fast motorcycles and we shared many a fond moment reminiscing on who did the craziest thing on a regular basis.
Spencer has had to battle the loss of his first wife Laura, which was a truly traumatic time for him, his manner to which I will always respect was his strength and dignity, portrayed by a man who suffered an emotional heartbreak.
I would like to pass on my sincere condolences to Spencer’s son David & daughter Andrea and to his partner Megan, and finally but not least his father Jack.
Truly missed, but never forgotton.
Sincerely
Rob Davies
Dear David;
Our sincerest condolences to you. Your father was far too young and we were so hopeful for a different outcome. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
My deepest sympathy to the Dorrans family. I had the pleasure of knowing Spencer since our college days. I will always remember him for his wit, compassion, intelligence and being a gentleman.
Rest in Peace Spencer. I respected and knew how private you were about your personal life, but I’m sorry that I didn’t know how bad things had gotten for you. I’ll miss that fantastic sense of humor of yours. That natural talent of yours that could take the driest subjects and turn them into a belly aching laugh fest. I’ll miss your stories of the many places that life took you and your family to. I’ll remember you most when you and Laura were living in Vienna on top of the Opernring…great location, you could have used some more furniture, but you had a fantastic sound system and an aprillia parked outside. I’ll remember someone who always strove for the best, both in his acquisitions as well as in what he did. On a professional level you were respected by all of us that were fortunate enough to have been able to work with you. The only guy I ever knew that needed someone to baby sit his cigar collection for him when he went on holiday. I’ll miss you my friend … My sincere condolences to all your family.
Dear Andrea and David
I see by today’s newspaper the very sad news of your dad’s passing. I am in shock.
I have often thought back to that difficult period when your mother was ill and then the funeral, seeing you and your dad walking down the aisle. She was way too young to go and I have often recalled her and my times together, her yearning to have seen you both longer.
I only met your dad briefly, in the condo in Kensington where he provided such amazingly loving care of your mother. She was asking him to adjust a cushion for her and he was so happy to do whatever she needed. I admired that not only did he get a special bed for her but got another for himself so they would match.
I was told that he was very upset at her passing and that he took some time off work and that you and he travelled? It seemed to me such a poetically beautiful marriage. Laura had told me of her wonderful experiences with him in Europe, hiking and relishing life.
I have known your mother’s family for about 50 years. When I was in elementary school she was my best friend and we would meet in the alley between our houses and play kick the can and other silly games. I slept over at her house a few times and was just in awe of your grandpa and how he was at the head of the table for a wonderful turkey dinner. Your grandmother was tall and gracious and so elegant. I was very admiring.
I had to move out of the district to go to grade 8 and Laura and I lost touch. It was such a surprise to hear from a mutual friend in about 2000 that Laura was back in town and asking me if I’d like to come to a reunion. We met at a downtown condo and it was amazing. Laura was now a world-traveller and lived in Europe and seemed so exotic but she was still Laura, down to earth, fun. We shared memories with many other old friends from elementary school and I marveled at the way nature matures us all individually with this amazing paintbrush of subtle aging. Laura was aging so beautifully.
When we got the news she had moved back permanently for health concerns and was living near me I had the chance to renew our friendship a bit more often. Again I saw the strength of character of this noble woman, and my mother, who had had breast cancer, visited Laura once with me at the condo. They had a great chat, knowing each other from so long back. Laura died when I was in Ontario, and when I traced back the moment of her death it was when a huge rainstorm had hit us near Lake Huron and then a sudden break in the clouds and sun. It seemed so important a message then, about peace and God going on powerfully, warmly, after the storm.
I look at the condo from time to time as I drive by and recognized some time ago that the for sale sign there must have been that suite. I thought your dad must surely have moved. back to Europe. I was touched however at how you both kept up fund raisers.
It is not fair at all that he has gone too. My heart goes out to you. You are way too young to have to deal with these blows. My own parents are both gone but I had them in my life till I was in my fifties. I hope you are able to find strength from your larger family now. Laura always meant to me a very strong family. I am sure you have that still.

Dear David & Andrea,
As you know I was very fond of both your mom and dad. My deepest sympathy to your both.
Your dad was such a kind gentle person who adored his family. He spoke so often to me about you that I feel I knew you. You made both your parents very proud of you.
Keep all your memories close to you, they will help over the coming months and I’m sure some will put a smile on your face.
Kind personal regards,
Carol

I had the Privilege of working with Spencer as a Bombardier FSR. He was one of the first people I worked with and left a lasting impression on me. I have found memories of our Beer Drinking adventures in Austria, Dubai and Cancun. My condolences to all his family and friends. We miss him alot.

Spencer was one of the few people I count as a true friend. I know he has been in having a hard time for the last few years and I felt that every time we talked. Most sincere condolences to his family. He will be missed.
I have great memories working with Spencer and meeting his wife Laura over breakfast on our training courses.
It was always good talking about racing motorcycles with him.
It’s with great suprise of hearing this news, and my condolences and heart go out to his Family. It should be known he will be missed deeply by everyone that he new him.
Thanks for the memories, rest in peace my friend.
To Spencer’s family & friends, my sinceres condolences.
I did not have the pleasure of working with Spencer for a long period of time but in the time I did have I came to realize he was a truly great FSR and even a better person.
Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
You will be missed by all.
Even though Spencer and I were not working in the same part of the world, as a Bombardier FSR, I had the privilege and opportunity to know Spencer through the various FSR Conferences. Spencer was certainly a great man well respected by everyone and a fun person to be around. He will be missed by all of us so, to his family, please accept my most sincere condolences and may his memories give you all the strength you need to get through these difficult times.
David,
Please know you and your family are in my thoughts during this time. You’ve been an amazing friend to me over the past year and I am sorry to see you have to suffer this. No one should have to deal with your loses at such a young age.
Please know that I am here to do anything you need in Vancouver now, and am always willing to listen as the months pass and you continue forward.
Andrea, you’re inner strength has absolutely amazed me in the past. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your brother.
To the Dorrans Family,
We were deeply saddened to hear the news that Spencer passed away last Saturday.
I have fond memories of working with Spencer in Wichita and in Europe, he was a trusted colleague and a friend. I enjoyed his companionship, the games of golf we played, the beers after work. I remember his commitment to his family, his love of music being played through his tube amplifier, his passion for motor sports, especially his love of motor bikes.
My wife Maureen and I will cherish the memories of our times together with Spencer and Laura in Wichita and our visits to them in Wien (Vienna) and Innsbruck.
We were fortunate to have shared some life experiences with him, we will miss you Spencer.
Andera, David, Jack and Megan please accept our sincere condolences.

Andrea, big, BIG love to you right now. You do not deserve this suffering, but yet the universe works in mysterious ways. May the love that resonates all around you be the healing force that you need.
I had the privilege of getting to know Spencer when he joined Bombardier so many years ago. Spencer was a great person and was easy to like and become friends with. We communicated mainly through email, but it was a nice surprise when he would show up in the office for a visit. As mentioned by others he is well respected and he will be missed greatly. To the Dorrans family, I offer my condolences and will wish that you will gain strength with the fond memories that will come to you in this difficult time.

Andrea, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you are a very strong person and you will persevere, if there is anything I can do to help let me know. My thoughts are with you and your brother.
I count myself fortunate to have known Spencer since my first assignment for Bombardier in Vienna in 2000. A real down to earth guy with a fantastically dry sense of humour, he will be sadly missed. To his family and friends, my heartfelt sympathy.
Dear Andrea & David,
Please accept my condolences on the passing of your father.
I was his manager for several years when he was based in Vienna, Austria. We had a good working relationship and along with your late mother enjoyed several rounds of golf together followed by a few pints in an Irish Pub, a good dinner, and an evening of stimulating conversation.
I am very sad that both your mother and your father were taken away far before their time.
I regret that I will not be able to attend the funeral.
Requiescat in pace.
Yours truly,
David Kirstuik
Spencer,
You were the first FSR I had the pleasure to meet, and since that day we have only crossed paths a handful of times. However, during those short overlaps we would always find time to go for a bite (usually sushi), or go for a beer (usually Asahi to go with the sushi), and just talk about music, motorcycles, and life. You were a true gentleman who always had a twinkle in your eye and a story to tell. Rest in peace my friend.
I offer my deepest condolences to Dorrans family at this difficult time. May Spencer’s memory continue to bring smiles to your hearts and minds for years to come.
Matthew Colborne
Spencer,
There are no other words to descibe this terrible news other than shock and sadness. You are a good person and I am confident God will take care of you. You are in a better place now and all your friends and work colleagues are better people for having known you. Rest in peace my friend….
I had the pleasure of working with Spencer at Canadian Regional Airlines and more recently he was our BRAD FSR for Jazz here in Calgary. More than our FSR he became a friend. I always enjoyed talking to him about our respective travels and lives. He spoke of his children with deep love and affection as well as a great respect for the people they had become.
He will be missed by all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.
God Bless you Spencer.
