Obituary of DOAL – Donald Robert Stuart

October 25, 1921 – September 9, 2010 Donald Robert Stuart Doal passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 9, 2010. Don was born in Englehart, ON on October 25, 1921 grew up in Matheson, ON and spent his working life as a geologist and prospector. He served overseas for five years with the Royal Canadian Engineers in WW2. Don was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served in many capacities there. His work as Service Officer of the branch brought comfort to so many. Don received numerous honors and awards including the Legion Palm Leaf. In 1999 he was honored as the Greatest Airdronian of the century. He played on many sports teams throughout his life winning trophies and medals for running, darts, bowling and curling. Don loved his family, sports and the outdoors but most of all Don loved life. Don was the beloved husband, friend and life-long companion of his wife of fifty-seven years Laura (Begley), whom he had known since childhood. Don was also a wonderful father to his only daughter Vicky (Ken) Mamczasz and a much-loved grandpa to Michael and great-grandson Cameron, grandson Steven and “the girl” granddaughter Kimberly. Don also leaves behind his loving sisters Jean (George) Schmidt in Denver and Pauline Mitten in Halifax as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. He was predeceased by his parents Florence and Paul; his twin Betty; sisters, Dorothy, Helen, Marion; and brothers, Mel, Reg and Dalton.
