Obituary of BODNAR – Lajos Andrew

April 24, 1936 – September 1, 2010 Louie was born in Sajopetri, Hungary to Anna and Lajos Bodnar. He lived in Hungary until he was twenty years old when he immigrated to Canada to escape the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 when the Soviet Union invaded Hungary. He came to Canada to be free of communism and he loved that Canada was a free country. He became a Canadian citizen in 1962. While he liked Canada and all that it represented, his heart never quite left his homeland and he was a proud Hungarian. Louis married Mary Kelly in 1961 and they had their daughter Anna in 1965. Louie was a man of many talents including drawing and painting, which he never pursued while he was working and raising his family. He was an excellent carpenter and was always fixing up his house to the highest standard which Mary and Anna referred to as “The Louie Standard.” Louie worked for the City of Calgary for several years before moving to the Calgary Board of Education where he retired from in 1994. Louie was predeceased by his wife Mary; his parents; and his brothers, Joseph and Zolton. He leaves behind to love him and miss him, his daughter Anna and son-in-law Cliff, whose humour he enjoyed. He also leaves behind many friends and family in Alberta, British Columbia and Ireland. In Hungary, Louie will be missed very much by his nieces and nephews and their children, whom he loved so much and was loved much in return. I would like to thank all the staff on the second floor of Newport Harbour Care Centre for their excellent care and wonderful kindness to my father in the last two years of his life. Nurses are very special people. I would also like to specially thank my Aunty Terry for being there for my dad and myself. You are a true and loyal friend. Thank you to my Aunty Ann for looking out for my dad’s spiritual well being, it was an important job. Lastly, thank you to Cathy and Christine for your loving visits to my dad and being with him when it was most needed. You are angels on earth. REST IN PEACE, Dad.
