Obituary of d’ALBENAS – Kenneth Ernest

September 28, 1952 – September 1, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ken d’Albenas on Wednesday September 1, 2010. If there is such a thing as a good death, Ken had one. He died very quickly of a massive heart attack at the age of 57. He passed away in his favourite place doing what he loved – hiking in the mountains. Ken was the beloved son of Leonard Henry and Clara Margaret d’Albenas. Ken was born in Lachine Quebec on September 28, 1952. Ken is described by his friends as “an extraordinary friend and scout leader”, “can’t think of a better person in this world than Ken d’Albenas”, “I loved him, and he’s gone; and the world is not the place it was on Tuesday”, “miss you so much bear whisperer”. He enjoyed helping others (especially youth), and did volunteer work with many local organizations such as the YMCA and Scouts Canada. His enthusiasm, intelligence, goodness, and sense of humour will be missed. Ken graduated from McGill, majoring in psychology and math, and later moved to Calgary in 1980 and received a degree from the University of Calgary in Geology and Geophysics. He became a technical write and editor, worked in geomodeling and software technical support, and as a geophysicist. He was a former member of the Calgary Ski Club and active member of the Society for Technical Communication. Ken is survived by his Mother; brother Don d’Albenas; nephew Shawn d’Albenas; Uncle Jim d’Albenas and his aunt Sandy and their children as well as Aunt Lily and her children. We invite everyone who knew Ken to a celebration of his life with a gathering of friends and family at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
