Obituary of FEARS – John Jack Benjamin

September 24, 1910 – August 27, 2010 Jack Fears of Calgary passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010 at the age of 99 years. Jack was born in Medicine Hat and moved to Calgary when he was a child. At the age of fourteen, Jack began working to support himself. He was a “Jack Of All Trades”, and will be remembered for helping anyone in need, welcoming anyone in his home and assisting organizations throughout Calgary. Jack was a Steam Fitter, Field Engineer, Draftsman, and was well learned and self taught in many other areas as well. Jack volunteered at many Catholic Churches throughout Calgary on building committees and pastoral care at Rockyview General Hospital for fourteen years. In his 99 years, Jack did so much for so many people it’s impossible to acknowledge all of his efforts. He remained independent for 97 years. Jack is survived by his daughter Rosemary Fears of Calgary, three grandchildren; Mike Fears, Dan Fears and Melanie Hogarth, and a son-in-law Tom Hogarth. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine in 1989, a daughter Jeannette Hogarth in 1992, and seven brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, September 01, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
