Obituary of Lauretta Jean SCHMALTZ

May 15, 1926 – August 20, 2010 Lauretta Jean Schmaltz passed away peacefully, Friday August 20, 2010 at the age of 84. Lauretta was born in Carbon Alberta and was the “middle” child in a family of nine. She moved to Acme Alberta where she held the position of telephone operator in the early years of telephone service and where she met her husband Felix. They were married on July 31, 1946. Together they raised four children in Beiseker, Alberta. Lauretta was an amazing cook and loved to entertain. In the many years of her marriage there was often a houseful of guests who happened to stop in knowing they would be well fed and looked after. She was an avid sports woman in her younger years and often talked about her time playing hockey with her sisters, water skiing, playing ball and curling. She loved her time at the arena watching her grandsons play hockey and was often offering a little coaching advice if she felt it was warranted! She enjoyed her winters in Palm Springs with Felix and after his passing was able to spend several winters with her brother Paul and his wife Wannie in Phoenix. There was always time to stop at the casino on the way to and from Palm Springs. In later years she enjoyed her trips to the local casinos. Lauretta moved to the Bethany Lodge in Airdrie in 2007 were she has lived until her passing, special thanks to the Airdrie Bethany Supportive Living staff for their loving care of Lauretta. She is survived by her sons Bruce (Monique) and Darren (Lisa); daughter Shelley (Jerry) Schneider as well as ten grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan, Tasha (Melanie), Remi (Dominique), Justin, Bradley, Krista Schmaltz, and Amy, Lindsey & Scott Schneider and nine great grandchildren.
