Obituary of IVANKOVIC – Vesna

January 18, 1948 – August 19, 2010 Vesna Ivankovic passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the age of 62 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in the small village of Hamzici in Bosnia, Hercigovina on January 18, 1948. She immigrated to Canada in 1967 with her husband Victor, where they began a new chapter of their life and started a family. Vesna, in life as in death, was a fighter with an unbreakable spirit. She loved her family and her garden and tended to both with all tenderness and selflessness of a mother’s love. Apart from her love and devotion to her family, Vesna will be remembered for her dedication to the many patients she cared for during her long career as a Nurses Aide. Vesna is survived by her loving son John, daughter Caroline and son-in-law Martin Maric; grandchildren Tea and Ievan. She is also survived by her brother Zarko Medic and sister-in-law her pillar of strength Branka, their children Sandra and Oliver Medic (and family), brother-in-law Bob Ivankovic and his wife Mariola, and their two children Sylvia and Mark; and by three brothers and sisters back home in Croatia. Vesna will be dearly missed by her best friend Alice Lietz and countless others. Vesna was predeceased by her infant son Robert Ivankovic; and nephews Dragan and Eddy Medic. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Marija Bistrica Croatian Catholic Church (14680 Deer Ridge Drive S.E.) on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
