Obituary of Christin Elizabeth SCHOLTEN

May 27, 1978 – Petrolia, Ontario November 21, 2018 – San Jose, California, USA Christin Elizabeth, beloved daughter of Nico and Teeya Scholten, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the age of 40 years. On November 16th, Christin fell and sustained a head injury. She suffered a massive brain bleed, exacerbated by her blood thinners, which resulted in an unconsciousness from which she never recovered. Despite the intensity of the injury, Christin was not aware of the severity and wasn’t scared or in pain. Christin’s strength was remarkable, even while dealing with so many physical barriers. Despite open heart surgery at age two and a half, a stroke at six, scoliosis surgery at 16, and a heart that was in constant atrial fibrillation from the age of 18 onwards, she was able to obtain her undergraduate degree from the University of Calgary in Communication Studies, and then follow her passion by obtaining a Master of Fine Arts degree in Film Producing from the American Film Institute, Los Angeles. Although she had exceeded all expectations for the length and type of life she was able to lead, Christin’s health had been declining over the last several years. She was motivated by her work teaching film and shared custody of her beloved son, Westley. We are sad to lose such a bright light on earth, and yet we are very grateful that the entire process of passing was painless and that her suffering is now over. Christin’s top love language was gift-giving, and the way in which she died allowed her to give the final and most important gift of all – life to others through organ donation. This may be the best gift she’s ever given: free for her to give, but priceless to the recipients. Her spirit will be forever with us, encouraging each of us to make the most of our lives. We are thankful for her teaching and the inspiration she provided to so many. Christin is survived by her son Westley; parents Nico and Teeya; brothers Jeff (Kira) and Marty (Jennifer); nieces and nephew Chloë, Julia, Sarah, Rebekah, and Jonah; her Canadian uncle Tom; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in The Netherlands. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church () on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Mass will be celebrated by Father Bogdan who was very special to Christin and by whom she felt entirely accepted and appreciated. The service will be followed by a reception in the church hall during which tributes will be offered. . There has been a tremendous outpouring of positive thoughts and prayers which have provided much strength and blessing for all of us during this time. We will miss her immensely but feel honoured to know she held such a special place in so many hearts. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating toward a fund administered by Jeff and Marty to benefit Christin’s 4-year-old son Westley.
