Obituary of HUNTER – Peter James Reith

April 12, 1929 – August 11, 2010 Family and friends celebrate the life and mourn the passing of Peter Hunter. He is survived by his loving wife Fern; his brother Tony (Val); his children, Tim, Paul (Vicky), Nancy (Paul) and their mother Peggy; and his stepchildren John (Tamara) and Ali (Darren). Grandchildren Tim, Matt, Kate and Cameron will always remember their Grandfather with his pipe, his piano, his treasure box full of goodies and his fantastical stories! Self-taught, a true Renaissance man, Peter enjoyed a long career as an oil industry executive and consultant across North America. His many friends from home and abroad will remember Peter’s intellect, wit, humour and generous hospitality. He appreciated good wine, good food and good stories, and traveled extensively in Europe and the Middle East. Peter was a gifted raconteur. His intimates can attest to his ability to entertain a roomful of rapt listeners. Peter was a thoughtful friend, and a handmade gift or a song he’d written especially for them would delight those celebrating a birthday or other milestone. In retirement, Peter volunteered his music and song, often playing for the residents of Elbow Valley Lodge. He let his creative juices flow by writing humourous verse, children’s stories and memoirs under his pen name “Bogdan Hash”. In his eighty-one well-lived years, Peter challenged those who knew him to read, to consider and argue ideas, and to appreciate and enjoy the best of life. A celebration of Peter’s life will take place the weekend of September 10th. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Myeloma Canada, P.O.
