Obituary of Braniff – Clare Leone

June 27, 1938 – August 8, 2010 Clare Leone Braniff much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away at home after a short battle with cancer. Clare was born in Nelson, BC. He came to Calgary at the age of six. Later he married and raised his family in Bowness for fifty-one years. He joined the Calgary Fire Department in 1959 where he spent thirty-five years doing a job he loved. He retired in the position of District Chief. Dad was a cowboy and a lover of all music. His family always came first. Clare was very involved in the Calgary Scottish community as his three children piped, danced and played the drums for many years at local and international Highland Games. Clare will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty-one years, Kathleen; his children, Lori Griffin, Patrick Braniff (Jenny), Anne Siemaszkiewicz (Joe); grandchildren Meagan and Jack Siemaszkiewicz, Katie, Georgia and Liam Braniff. Clare leaves behind sisters Sheila Nelson, Maureen Polomark, Patricia Burns; and brother Larry Braniff (Linda); sisters-in-law, Nan Quinn, Corky Steel, Maggie Daubert, and Teasie O’Donnell; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father Lawrence and Connie Braniff; nephew Robbie Burns; and niece Kari Polomark. A Celebration of Clare’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
