Obituary of HARVIE – Carol Jean
1936-2010
Carol Harvie passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, in the company of her family, after a brief illness.
Carol was born on November 30, 1936 in Delburne, Alberta to Bruce and Alice Campbell. She attended school in both Delburne and Red Deer and graduated from the University of Alberta Nursing School in September 1957. After graduating, Carol worked as a nurse in Lacombe, Alberta where she met Sandy Harvie who she married in 1960. Carol and Sandy settled in Calgary where they raised their family and cultivated a wide circle of friends. In 1996 Carol and Sandy moved to acreage near Olds, Alberta where she enjoyed the wide vistas and the company of her beloved dogs. Carol was a devoted wife and mother who always put the needs of her husband and her children first. Her concern for others was also reflected in her many volunteer associations in Calgary and Olds. She was a member of the Kinette Club of Calgary for many years and volunteered as a labour and delivery coach and for the Mount View Special Riding Association. One of the great joys of her life was her continued fellowship with her nursing classmates. Carol was president of her 1957 graduating class and she kept in contact with her classmates, attending functions and imitating the Queen, for over fifty years. Carol will be remembered for her wit, humour and generous spirit; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carol is survived, and lovingly remembered, by her children, Janet Harvie and Britt Simmons of Calgary, John Harvie of Didsbury, Margot Harvie of Calgary and Allyson and Kevin Gurr of Camrose; and by her grandchildren, Jonathan, Kathleen, and Lindsay Gurr and Joe and Duncan Simmons. She is also survived by her brothers Dave and Ken Campbell, her sister Linda Bradley and their sons and daughters. Carol was predeceased by Sandy, her husband of thirty nine years, and her brother Clark.
