Obituary of THOMAS – Gladys Irene

December 11, 1914 – July 22, 2010 It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that the family of Gladys Thomas (nee Mjolsness) announce that she passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Alf in 1967, and is survived by her sons Ken, Ron (Judy), and Allan (Ingrid); grandchildren Courtney Thomas (Shaun Badry), Cristina Roberts (Phil), and Stephanie Thomas (Michael Sprake); great-grandchildren Greta, Eric, and Annelise; and brother Chester Mjolsness. Gladys was born in Didsbury and raised on the family farm at McDougall Flats, where she attended school. Gladys lived in the Sundre area for more than fifty years until Alf’s new career as a lay minister in the United Church resulted in their moving to Hines Creek, Alberta in 1966. After Alf’s sudden passing in 1967, Gladys moved to Calgary to be near her family, where she remained, except for two years when she was in Vienna, Austria with her son Ken. She lived at the Bow-Crest Care Centre for the past six years, and her family is grateful to the staff there for the care she was given. Although wheelchair-bound in recent years, she remained cheerful and friendly to all, traits characteristic of her throughout her life. A woman of abiding faith and unfailing optimism, nothing meant more to Gladys than her family and friends. Her love, caring, and happiness continue to be an inspiration to all. Funeral Services will be held at Sundre United Church (118 Centre Street North, Sundre, Alberta) on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Sundre Cemetery.
