Obituary of HEBENTON – David James Heb

July 3, 1927 – July 20, 2010 It is with profound sadness we announce that David passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, July 20, 2010 with his family beside him at the age of 83. David will be dearly missed by his loving wife Dorothy of fifty-six years and children, Susan (Larry Carter), Christopher, and Michael (Julie), five adored grandchildren, Tyler, Jesse, Jordan, Kian and Emma. David was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Margaret Hebenton and his two bothers, Leslie and Robert. Born in Saskatoon, SK David moved to Calgary in 1938 attending Rideau Park and Western Canada High School where many lifelong friendships were made. Playing professional hockey in Europe from 1948 to 1950, he returned to begin his career in the oil industry, primarily in purchasing with Hudson’s Bay Oil & Gas for twenty nine years and married Dorothy in 1954. In 1978, he travelled to Perth, Australia to set up the HBOG office, David retired in 1989 after proudly working for the OCO as purchasing coordinator for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games. David was a lover of fly-fishing, hockey, gymnastics, diving, music and the outdoors, however, the most important focus of his life was being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle who lived his life quietly as a gentleman, with honour, dignity and honesty in all that he did. He will be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews and his very special friends Don Harper, Grenville Bill and Bob Smith, who will join us in fondly remembering David’s mischievous and fun loving sense of humour. Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all friends and family who have extended their support, prayers and love during this difficult time, Joseph from We Care and specifically Sylvia and the caring team at Focus on Caring who have provided endless support and wonderful care to allow David to be at home, where he wanted to be. At David’s request no formal funeral will be held.
