VENCE ( FRANCE)
To the Freeze Family:
Our sympathies and thoughts are with you. Mr. Freeze was a generous and thoughtful man. His willingness to share his success with others has changed the lives of many struggling youth in Calgary and he will be missed by the the children, youth, families and staff of Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary.
It was 45 years ago in 1965 that I met Dave in Calgary. My relationship with him started on a personal level and quickly developed into a close friendship of long standing. Dave was an upright, honourable, interesting, straight as an arrow “Westener” who explored life in a spirit of true adventure with a sense of exitement which stayed with him to the very end. His interests were wide ranging, his knowledge extensive, and his phenomenal success in business coupled with his financial accumen drew him into a wide circle of high-powered and talented group of international friends. The bond between us was based on the fact that he enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke, and he relished in regaling his friends with a spicy variety of interesting tales and personal mishaps. My favorite is…when, during his wild and ruckus youth, one night after midnight he was forced to land his twin-engined plane on the darkend mainstreet of what was then a small village of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. His masculan nature, good looks and substancial financial resources could have easily turned him into a playboy on the international stage. But instead, he spent a lot of his time in the pursuit of humanitarian deeds where he was focused on making a difference….and a great difference he made in the lives of many right up to the end!! In this he was genuiune to the core. All who have known him will be saddened by his passing, but of course those who were closest to him will miss him the most. Our thoughts are with you, Annie! May God grant you the strength to endure!
It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Dave Freeze. I have known Dave since the early 1970’s as he was one of our investors in forming Jasper Oils an exploration and production company. It was later sold and I started consulting with Dave for his company, Wesco Oils Ltd.
In my experience I have never worked for a more ethical and kind person with deep principles. He always gave me good advice. Dave never sought publicity as evidenced by all the philanthropic support mentioned in his obituary that I knew nothing about.
I wish to express my condolences to his family. I am deeply saddened. Dave will be missed. It was my privilege to have known and worked with such a remarkable man.
Sincerely,
Ted O’Bertos
Our deepest sympathy to the entire family.

I would like to extend my condolences to the Freeze family. My connection to Dave was through my role as Chairman of the Calgary Foundation where I became aware of his generosity and as a Director of the ING Group where I appreciated his business acumen. I know that the Dutch Group found him a very honorable person to deal with as well as his other family members,
I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the Freeze family on the loss of a remarkable man. David was a man of amazing generosity and his tireless commitment to supporting charities was greatly appreciated. The Community Kitchen Program was truly blessed over the years by David’s faithful support. A man of his character and caliber will be sorely missed and we are thankful for having known him. He gave us a glimpse of the true nature of God.
Dearest Janny,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Although we only knew David through you, we know how much he meant to so many people. We hope you had a good chance to say good-bye, and remember all the moments you shared together.
Love always,
Andrea, Carl, and Violette
Annie
Ken has just been able to pass on the news of Dave’s last flight. Sandy and I would like to pass on our deepest sympathy in your loss. Over the years when we shared the Citation’s cockpit, we had many discussions, and I always valued Dave’s comments and guidance. He was a great role model.
Dick
Many loving thoughts go out to you at this time, dear Annie … What a great pleasure to have known both you & Dave for so very many years now … and we remember with great fondness all the happy times spent together. Please know you are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers — Take good care of yourself. Love, Sandy & Mike xxoo
I wanted to pass on my sincere sympathy to you and the entire family. Dave was an amazing man and I will am eternally grateful for the chance he took on us when he invested in a small start up called Founders Energy which ultimately became Provident Energy Trust. His commitment to quietly helping many charities and community causes is a testament to his outstanding character. His was a true role model and a very special person.
Yours Sincerely
Tom Buchanan
David’s obituary was inspiring and full of dignity…just like the man.
Dear Annie,
Please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss of David. I know he had been ill for a long time, and I understand only too well how exhausting this time is for you, his spouse.
I just had a nice chat with Hugh Morrish who had me laughing about some “Dave Stories” of years gone by.
Please take good care of yourself now Annie.
Marion Rogers
Our sincere sympathies. I met Dave in 1957 when he hired me to work at W.U.I.
I have many fond memories of our working relationship. He was always diligent in his work, and a pleasure to work with/for.
I know that he will be sadly missed by his family members, and by the staff who had the pleasure to have met and worked with him at W.U.I.
Our thoughts are with you and the family at this sad time. While we haven’t seen you since the 70’s when we lived at 2501-5ASt, we recall the consideration, advice and help Dave gave us when we had dealings with the City and other Downtown matters when I was Chairman of Stephens Avenue and the Downtown Business Assoc.. Calgary has lost a great and thoughtful citizen as clearly detailed in his obituary. Al and Lois Briggs
My wife and I send our sincere condolences to you and your family. I worked with Phil in Red Deer at Western Union when the office opened in 1981. I went to work with WU in 1978 because of it’s uniqueness in being a small
Alberta based insurance company. And my career extended 32 plus years and I thank the Freeze family for that opportunity. What a very special person. Our thoughts are with you. Laurie and Donna Sandberg
Annie,
My deepest sympathy in your loss.
I remember well the days we flew together and his advice that finding a brown bear under the wing of my beloved Baron was “just a Canadian thing”.
He was a great man and a genuine person.
I know that he will be sorely missed.
Annie, It was an honor to have known David from the time we were first married and over the years it has been memorable and fun to have visited with you both in various parts of the world. We offer you a warm hug, a smile and a thank you for keeping David happy and always interesting. Our thoughts are with you. We will miss him. Please stay strong and look after yourself. With Love, Lorna and Roger
