It was 45 years ago in 1965 that I met Dave in Calgary. My relationship with him started on a personal level and quickly developed into a close friendship of long standing. Dave was an upright, honourable, interesting, straight as an arrow “Westener” who explored life in a spirit of true adventure with a sense of exitement which stayed with him to the very end. His interests were wide ranging, his knowledge extensive, and his phenomenal success in business coupled with his financial accumen drew him into a wide circle of high-powered and talented group of international friends. The bond between us was based on the fact that he enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke, and he relished in regaling his friends with a spicy variety of interesting tales and personal mishaps. My favorite is…when, during his wild and ruckus youth, one night after midnight he was forced to land his twin-engined plane on the darkend mainstreet of what was then a small village of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. His masculan nature, good looks and substancial financial resources could have easily turned him into a playboy on the international stage. But instead, he spent a lot of his time in the pursuit of humanitarian deeds where he was focused on making a difference….and a great difference he made in the lives of many right up to the end!! In this he was genuiune to the core. All who have known him will be saddened by his passing, but of course those who were closest to him will miss him the most. Our thoughts are with you, Annie!
