Obituary of John Litke

August 23, 1929 – July 10, 2010 John died peacefully July 10, 2010 at the Mount Royal Care Centre in Calgary, AB. Dad was born in Leduc, AB on August 23, 1929 to Fred & Mary Litke. Dad was a great athlete who played baseball as a young adult and enjoyed competitive curling in his adult years, but his great love was woodworking. He started his career working in the oil patch and then changed directions to his great love of construction, building homes with his brother-in-law, Fred. He then moved to the Inuvik, NWT with his wife and daughters to take on a position with the Department of Indian Affairs and later to Yellowknife with the Department of Public Works, where he obtained his CPM designation. After leaving the NWT, he worked for many years with the Alberta Solicitor General’s office, then the Edmonton Public School Board and lastly with the County of Parkland. When he finally retired, he continued with his woodworking as a hobby for as long as he was able. Dad loved to spend many hours outside gardening and watching the wildlife. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Cheryl (Wayne) King, Gail (Gerry) Park, grandchildren, Rae King, Joely (Chris) Sorensen, Jacey Bulloch, Trent (Katherine) Litke, great grandchildren Taylor, Kennedy, Carter, Rylie, Raigen, Camryn, Austin & Brandon, sisters Helen & Leona, brother Al and loving partner Mary Muspratt. Is also predeceased by his wife, Hertha (Jean). At John’s request, there will be no formal service. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
