Obituary of VESPA – Domenico Joseph

November 7, 1928 – July 2, 2010 It is with great sadness we announce that Domenico, loving husband of fifty-eight years to the late Elisabetta, passed away peacefully and with dignity. Domenico was born on November 7, 1928 in S. Stefano di Sessanio, Italy and spent his youth in Italy and Belgium. He and Elisabetta were married in Italy on March 3, 1951. He immigrated to Canada in 1958, and one year later, Elisabetta, Vinicio and Fonsa joined him. Fausto was born in Calgary in 1963. Domenico was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Domenico was hardworking, dedicated and always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed gardening, and was an accomplished wine maker and sports fan. He especially enjoyed Bocce at the Calgary Italian Club where he was a lifetime member enjoying many hours volunteering, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren. We will dearly miss him and he will always be in our hearts. Domenico is survived by his children, Vinicio (Terry), Alfonsina (Vic) and Fausto; grandchildren, Corey, Anthony (Kristen), Lisa (Joey), Darrick, Amanda, Taralyn (Mike), and Kayla; great grandchildren, Tyler, Saige and Charlie; sisters, Vera and Maria Pia (Filippo); brother Liano (Anna), all of Belgium; sister-in-law Emma Vespa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Belgium. Domenico was predeceased by his wife Elisabetta “Lisa” Vespa on February 7, 2009 and brother Leo Vespa on March 15, 2006. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
