Obituary of STEAD – Anne McLeod

January 4, 1923 – June 30, 2010 Anne McLeod (“Nancy”) Stead (nee McAllan), beloved wife of Mr. Samual Stead of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at the age of 87 years. Anne was born in Wick, Caithness, Scotland on January 4, 1923. She met her husband Sam in Gloucester, England while serving in the British Army as a radar operator. They married in Edinburgh. In 1946, Anne immigrated to Canada as a War Bride with her baby daughter. Anne quickly adapted to life in Lethbridge and dedicated her life to her family and home. Since Sam was a square dance caller, Anne met many dear friends through the clubs they were involved with in and around Lethbridge, Radville, Saskatchewan, Fernie, B.C., and finally in Calgary where they retired. Anne’s quick wit and easy manner won her many lifelong friends. Besides her loving husband Sam to whom she was happily married for sixty-five years, Anne is survived by her children, Margaret (Sandy) and Gordon (Rose); grandchildren, Jeffrey (Maria), Jamie, Jennifer and Kenneth (Kim). She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Jack, Alex, Jordan, Braxton, McKayla, and Jessie. A celebration of Anne’s life will be held at a later date.
