Obituary of STRACK – Karl Heinz Harry

August 26, 1938 – June 18, 2010 Karl Heinz “Harry” Strack beloved husband of Elisabeth of Calgary, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the age of 71 years. Harry was determined to live in Canada and left Germany with some friends. He landed in Vancouver and was sent to Fernie and Michelle, BC to work for Keiser Aluminum, originally working in coal mines and then later the Banff Jasper Highway. Harry officially immigrated to Canada in 1958, leaving and returning numerous times, calling Calgary and Toronto home. Harry’s culinary career took him from Germany to the coasts of Canada and many places in between. He was able to cultivate his skills in the United States in Florida, New York, and Ohio. His family enjoyed his successes with the opening of both his restaurants. After retirement, he worked for the Calgary Stampede where he continued to demonstrate his culinary abilities and was rewarded with many good friends. For years, Harry was an established member of the Alhazaar Temple. Harry was an active kayaker and some of his fondest memories were those of him floating down the Kananaskis River, often trying to share this love with his family. Harry always gave back to his community. He volunteered at the Southland Leisure Centre with individuals who had suffered from strokes. Earlier on in his career, he was responsible for the development of cooking programs for individuals with special needs. Harry spent a great deal of his life learning and he was never afraid to try something new. Reflecting on years past, Harry was always trying to establish himself as a better person realizing and redefining himself with each new endeavour. Besides his loving wife Elisabeth, Harry is survived by his children, Sabine (John) Hardie, Natascha Strack, and Karl Strack; and grandchildren, Devon and Mackenzie Hardie.
