Obituary of DUFFNER– Allen Fred

August 7, 1921 – June 17, 2010 Allen Duffner, passed away suddenly in Calgary, on Thursday, June 17th, 2010 in his 89th year. Allen was born on August 7th, 1921, in New Baden, Illinois, and spent his childhood years in Denver, Colorado. After high school, Allen attended the University of Colorado before joining the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving in multiple theatres until the end of World War II. Allen joined Gulf Oil after the war, working in the oil fields of Oklahoma and eventually relocated to Alberta, Canada. He married Gladys Rohatyn on November 3, 1956 in Regina. In 1964 they moved to Calgary where they raised their two children. Allen remained in Calgary and eventually retired from Gulf Oil in 1983. Enjoying an active retirement of twenty seven years, Allen pursued a variety of interests that included hiking, fishing, golf and wood carving. He and Gladys also made numerous overseas trips to far flung destinations, as well as touring North America. To the end, Allen remained positive and sharp minded and enjoyed the freedom of living in his own home and driving his own car. Allen is survived by his loving wife Gladys and their children Bruce (Vicky) Duffner and Christine (Peter) Serafini. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Natalie Serafini; Nicholas and Brandon Duffner. He is also survived by his brother Lowell Duffner and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in the United States and Canada. Allen was predeceased by his parents Lucy and Allen Duffner, and his brother Stanley Duffner. A Celebration of Allen’s life will be held at the Earl Grey Golf and Country Club (6540 20th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
